Addiction among Serving Members and Veterans

Substance addiction can affect by veterans

Substance misuse and addiction can affect people from all walks of life, but the difficulties experienced by service members and veterans make us especially sensitive to their needs.

The following information concerning service members and veterans is kept in mind when dealing with TRICARE insurance clients:

  • A higher propensity toward alcohol abuse is associated with combat veterans’ exposure to violent and traumatic situations.
  • Alcohol consumption and heavy drinking are far more common among veterans than among the general population.
  • Veterans are more likely to engage in binge drinking, according to data collected between 2013 and 2017.
  • Over a span of eight years, the percentage of prescriptions for opioids written for veterans rose from 17% to 24.
  • There has been a greater increase in prescription drug addiction among active duty military and veterans than among civilians generally.

In other words, the need for health insurance to provide coverage for things like intensive outpatient programs, medication-assisted treatment, partial hospitalization programs, and other drug addiction services for veterans is critical.

Typical Addictions Treated at South Shore Recovery

When it comes to treating substance misuse and addiction, the staff at South Shore Recovery has been at it for more than a decade. The following materials will provide light on our approach to helping those with:

TRICARE Insurance for Alcoholism

TRICARE Alcoholism

Alcoholism is a debilitating disease in which a person develops a psychological and physiological need for alcohol to function normally. Alcoholism’s effects on one’s mental health, relationships, and physical health can be disastrous.

For those in need of alcohol addiction treatment, we have the knowledge, experience, and resources to help restore physical, mental, and spiritual health. All of our clients receive a comprehensive, therapeutic, systematic, and individualized approach to alcohol rehabilitation.

Options include drug and alcohol intensive outpatient programs, drug and alcohol partial hospitalization programs, and drug and alcohol detox.

TRICARE Insurance for Opiates

Opioid misuse and physical dependence can develop rapidly, leading to severe withdrawal symptoms upon abrupt cessation of drug use. Opiate dependence can develop after even brief use. Heroin addiction is treated with care and compassion at South Shores Detox, which serves veterans and active-duty military personnel who need addiction treatment.

We also accept health insurance and TRICARE coverage for any medication-assisted treatment you may incur during our drug and alcohol addiction treatment sessions. TRICARE coverage, whether administered through TriWest or under its own badging, usually covers these types of addiction treatment situations.

Health Insurance Benzodiazepine Addiction Treatment

Benzodiazepines, including common brand names like Xanax®, Valium®, and Klonopin®, are frequently recommended to patients in need of relief from insomnia or anxiety. Severe dependence can develop from these substances, making them comparable to opiates in terms of addiction.

Those who are addicted to benzodiazepines are frequently referred to a residential drug and alcohol addiction treatment center.

Drug Rehab for Amphetamines

Methamphetamine, also known as “speed,” and amphetamine-like prescription medicines like Adderall® and Ritalin® produce a euphoric, strong high in the user, manifested by increased activity, decreased need for sleep, and increased hostility.

Amphetamines are very poisonous, addicting, and hazardous, making addiction treatment a challenging prospect. Those seeking to detox and enter drug rehab often suffer powerful cravings. We frequently refer those in need of detox from amphetamines to our center.

FAQs About TRICARE and the Recovery Center at South Shores Recovery

Do detox centers, inpatient treatment centers, and other methods for overcoming substance abuse problems fall under TRICARE plans?

Yes! A wealth of data on TRICARE’s website pertains to the treatment of addiction. If you’d want to make sure South Shores Recovery is a good fit, contact a member of our care team today.

Just how expensive is rehabilitation with TRICARE?

Clients, treatments, and insurance plans all have a role in determining the final price tag. We’ll coordinate our efforts to ensure you get the care you require. There’s also no umbrella amount that covers all potential types of services here. Every client’s journey is different, requiring separate forms of care – thus triggering different prices for services.

Do I need to tell the US Military if I checked into rehab?

Confidentiality and HIPAA compliance are paramount at South Shore Recovery. In order to maintain our clients’ anonymity, we take every precaution. This includes not disclosing any information to any military or government entity without any prior approval or authorization from you beforehand.

However, it’s worth noting that the client/provider agreement can be broken if a legal issue is looming. With the right paperwork or warrant, we must disclose information per request. However, this is extremely rare and nothing you should be concerned with.

Do you offer treatment for dual diagnoses, such as mental illness and substance abuse?

Yes! Substance misuse and addiction often coexist with a wide range of mental health issues, including but not limited to: trauma, codependency, depression, anxiety, bipolar illness, and eating disorders. Individuals with PTSD have up to a 14-fold increased risk of being diagnosed with a substance misuse disorder.

Fortunately, in many cases, TRICARE covers dual diagnosis treatment programs fully at South Shores.

It’s important that we offer this, especially to our TRICARE young adult clients (18+), and even TRICARE retired reserve. These individuals (the older and noticeably younger) seem to have the most difficulty coming to terms with certain parts of their time in the service.

Things like PTSD are strongly considered to be a huge driving factor in Veteran drug abuse. We work closely with family members to address these challenges during disorder treatment, ensuring that the chances of relapse are reduced.
