What to Expect at South Shores

Starting Guidelines for Incoming Clients at South Shores

Welcome to South Shores! Although we cannot cover every possible scenario for our clientele, below are outlines regarding guidelines and expectations at our facilities to address many common questions and concerns.

1. Promissory Note Agreement

Upon arrival, if you have indicated financial hardship, you will be required to sign a promissory note. This document outlines your financial obligations to the facility and the terms of repayment. It’s crucial to understand and agree to these terms before signing.

2. Accommodation Details

Most clients will be accommodated in a shared room, typically with one other person. Room assignments are made based on sex and demographic similarities to ensure compatibility and comfort for all clients. Please be prepared to share your space respectfully with others.

3. Couples Accommodation Policy

Couples will not sleep in the same room and will follow the same accommodation rules as other clients. However, they will be housed in the same house, ensuring that they are close to each other while respecting the facility’s policies on accommodation.

4. Activities and Wellness Programs

Our facility offers a range of activities and wellness programs, including beach outings and yoga sessions. However, please note that these activities are weather-permitting and seasonal. Our goal is to enhance your stay with these offerings, but they may vary based on external conditions.

5. Gym Trips

We arrange trips to a local gym as part of our commitment to your physical well-being. Participation in gym outings is dependent on the current demand among clients. While we strive to accommodate everyone’s interests, please understand that these trips may not be available at all times.

6. Smoking Policy

Smoking is permitted at the facility, but strictly in designated smoking areas only. It’s important to respect this policy for the comfort and health of all clients and staff. Please ensure you use the smoking areas provided and adhere to any guidelines or rules posted in these areas.

7. Transition Between Housing

During your time with us, there is a possibility of changing accommodations as you progress through different stages of your treatment. Specifically, once you complete your detox phase, you may move to a different house or area within the facility that is designated for residential treatment. This transition is a positive step forward in your recovery journey and is designed to support your evolving treatment needs.

8. Participation in Evening Meetings

While staying at the facility, you will participate in evening meetings that may take place outside of the facility. These could be Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings. Participation in these meetings is an integral part of your recovery process, offering support and fostering a sense of community and mutual aid among peers in recovery.

It’s important that you fully understand and agree to these points before proceeding with your admission. This clarity ensures that we can provide the best possible experience during your stay and helps to manage expectations on both sides. If you have any questions or need further clarification on any of these points, please do not hesitate to ask.

9. Zero Tolerance Policy on Aggressive Behavior

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of aggressive or threatening behavior. This includes individuals and couples, who, in the event of such behavior, may be asked to split up and continue their recovery in different locations. This measure ensures the safety and well-being of all clients and staff, maintaining a peaceful and supportive environment.

10. Zero Tolerance Policy on Entering Other Clients’ Rooms

We enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy for clients entering other clients’ rooms. This behavior is strictly prohibited and will result in the individuals involved being asked to leave the facility. Such actions jeopardize the facility’s licensing due to strict state-enforced guidelines. It is imperative to respect each other’s privacy and adhere to this policy.

11. Mobile Phone Usage and Accessibility During Treatment

At South Shores Detox, our client cell phone policy balances privacy, safety, and the importance of staying connected with loved ones.

Upon admission, clients are placed on a 14-day phone blackout period. During this time, they have the opportunity to make calls using the facility phone for 10-15 minutes per day. Clients can decide how many calls to make within this time frame. Once the blackout period ends, clients can access their personal mobile phones during designated downtimes.

12. Disclaimer on Flight Payment (if applicable)

If the facility offers financial assistance for a flight due to financial hardship and the client is admitted into the program, upon discharge, the client will be provided with a ticket home. The ticket will be booked at least 7 days in advance of the scheduled discharge date so that the client has it on the day of completion. However, if the client discharges against medical advice or unexpectedly earlier, the ticket will be provided on the day of discharge but will be for a future date, most likely 7 or more days out.

If the client steps down to a partner facility upon completion of the services supplied by South Shores, South Shores will still facilitate the flight home and coordinate with the partner facility about the future discharge. It is not the responsibility of the partner facility to pay for the return flight. This process is in compliance with California DHCS guidelines.

It’s essential that you fully understand and agree to these points before proceeding with your admission. This ensures we can provide the best possible experience during your stay and helps to manage expectations on both sides. If you have any questions or require further clarification on any of these points, please do not hesitate to ask.
